In the year 2000, Amtrak introduced Acela, the first high-speed rail service in the Western Hemispher, with the new trains reaching 160 miles per hour. Since then, Amtrak served over 65 million passengers. ¿But what’s next for high-speed rail in America? The new bullet train between Dallas and Houston.

High-speed rail service with mostly-dedicated and purpose-built rights of way can radically shrink trip times, achieve excellent reliability and provide significant capacity – all things that will drive ridership and help convince people to shift their trips to rail. When complete, this project is forecast to provide significant social, environmental, employment and economic benefits to the people of Texas. As an example, the project is estimated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 100,000 tons per year, saving 65 million gallons of fuel while removing 12,500 cars per day from I-45.

The train between Dallas and Houston in details

“There’s a lot of people flying from Dallas to Houston. But to be fair, it’s really kind of too short to fly. By the time you got to the airport, and gone trought everything. So we really think, Dallas to Houston is the one. And I’m particularly excited about it because the cities are 240 miles apart. The proposal is what we’re looking to do, is introduce the legendary japanese bullet train, the Shinkansen. So, what’s called a Shinkansen N 700 S, and people are just going to be blown away, when they experience that”, said Andy Byford, Senior Vice President, High-Speed Rail Development Programs, of Amtrak.

The train will cover the 240 miles at 205 miles per hour. The average speed will be about 187 miles per hour, which is, actually would be the fastest average speed in the world.

The proposed route would offer a total travel time of less than 90 minutes between two of the top five major U.S. metropolitan areas and would complement future, new and improved corridor and long-distance service in the southern region.
